Casey Burns

Councilmember Casey D. Burns is a newly seated member of the Roberts City Council, bringing a strong background in service, safety, and community involvement to his role. Born on February 12, 1970, in Idaho Falls, Casey was raised in Southeast Idaho, where he developed the work ethic and practical mindset that continue to guide him today.

As a young man, Casey worked a variety of hands-on jobs, including shoveling snow, moving pipe, working the spud harvest, and construction. He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps, an experience that shaped his sense of discipline, accountability, and dedication to others. During his service, he had the opportunity to travel, with Iwakuni, Japan standing out as a favorite destination.

After completing his military service, Casey attended Eastern Idaho Technical College (now the College of Eastern Idaho), where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Operational Health Physics in 1996. While there, he served as Student Body Vice President. A guiding principle he carries from his education into public service is simple: question everything—if it doesn’t look right, take the time to make it right.

Casey built his professional career in radiological control and waste processing, working as a Radiological Control Technician, in Radioactive Waste Processing, and as a Transportation Specialist. He received the General Manager’s Achievement Award for developing a database that improved tracking of radiological control spill drills, strengthening safety practices in the workplace.

A strong advocate for veterans, Casey serves as the Benefits Resource Officer for Snake River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1004 and is an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He dedicates significant time to assisting veterans in accessing benefits and services and supports community events and charitable efforts throughout the area.

In 2019, Casey chose to make Roberts his home, drawn to its welcoming, small-town atmosphere. In January 2026, he was seated as a member of the Roberts City Council. As one of the council’s newest members, Casey is focused on listening to residents, learning the needs of the community, and contributing thoughtful, practical solutions. His goal is to help Roberts remain a safe, friendly place while being mindful of responsible growth.

Outside of public service, Casey is a proud father of two adult children and grandfather to two grandsons. He enjoys riding ATVs, spending time with his family, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. An accomplished athlete, he is also the 2003 North American Heavyweight SUMO Champion.

Councilmember Burns approaches his new role with humility, dedication, and a deep respect for the community he now serves.
